The real gap

Knowing German is not the same as feeling ready at work.

Many nurses understand a lot of general German and still feel uncertain the moment a shift starts. That is not a personal failure — it is a sign that the practice has not matched the situation yet.

  • Speak with patients and relatives
  • Give or receive a handover
  • Ask a supervisor for clarification
  • Describe symptoms or changes in condition
  • Document clearly
  • Participate in interviews
  • Respond quickly under pressure
  • Understand workplace expressions and expectations
  • Communicate when you are tired, nervous, or being observed

You do not need more random vocabulary. You need practice for the situations you are actually preparing to handle.

Our story

Built by a nurse who understands the pressure of starting again.

Rise Austria was founded by a nurse who moved into German-speaking healthcare and learned how different real shifts feel from language lessons. She knew the clinical work. The hard part was doing it in another language, quickly, in front of others.

Along the way she experienced miscommunication and uncertainty, and also racism and bullying. Those experiences were not the whole story — but they showed her clearly how much practical preparation and respect internationally trained nurses deserve.

Rise Austria exists to give that preparation: realistic, respectful, healthcare-focused practice for the conversations that actually happen.

“You should not have to face every important healthcare conversation alone.”

Our approach

Practise the conversations behind the job.

Three simple parts, repeated until the situation feels familiar.

1

Start with your real goal

We look at your German level, nursing role, professional goals, available time, study preferences, and the healthcare situations that feel difficult right now.
2

Practise realistic situations

Visual lessons, audio activities, role-play, healthcare vocabulary, sentence patterns, documentation examples, and interview preparation.
3

Build confidence through feedback and repetition

Submit voice or written responses, review feedback, repeat the difficult activities, and track progress over time.

Example situations you can practise

  • Giving a structured handover
  • Explaining a procedure to a patient
  • Asking a colleague to repeat or clarify something
  • Speaking to a supervisor
  • Writing a short professional note
  • Preparing for a nursing interview
  • Responding to a complaint or misunderstanding

Rise Austria cannot automatically understand every learner, and no method guarantees fluency. What it can do is make the important situations familiar before you are in them.
